Recently I came across a survey; it said that over the past eight years, Google searches for terms related to ‘Anxiety’ have DOUBLED!
Yes I believe that we all go through different types of stress or anxiety in life. The word ‘Stress’ seems negative to most of us but we need a certain level of stress to survive in our day to day life as that minor stress of being aware of the environment around us helps us to make better and safer decisions.
I think the beginning point of stress or anxiety is our THOUGHTS! A negative thought creates negative emotion and that emotion sends a signal to our chemical creation centre via brain to create stress hormones- adrenalin and cortisol. The brain prepares the body for the ‘flight or fight’ response- body pulls all the energy from other systems to survive in this state of threat. This energy which gets pulled out does the job of re-creation and maintenance of our body on a daily basis. Now if a person is in a constant state of stress and anxiety then the body can’t have a normal state and do its proper job to keep us healthy as there is no energy being left for it. Hence this chaos creates an imbalance in the body which leads to the ILLNESS or DIS-EASE, mentally and physically.
Being a physical therapist (KORE Therapist), I have noticed that stress and anxiety plays a major role in affecting the health and wellness. Clinical experiences teach us that all illnesses, pain and dis-eases are related to Physical, chemical and emotional imbalances. When the physical side is out of balance then the rest two, chemical and emotional is out of balance too. Because of the stress the blood pressure raises, there is too much sugar in blood and the Pancreas releases insulin to balance blood sugar level (diabetes!) If the stress is high and constant, body goes into shock which leads to uncontrolled shaking. Body starts converting the sugar into fats and people start putting on weight. Also we experience behavioural changes like aggression, confusion and depression which impacts the liver and its function of the flow in the body- this leads to aches and pains, toxic/stagnation build up. People also experience fear which affects the kidneys and its functions; leads to lower back pain, lack of energy, anxiety and many more symptoms. Clients with stress related conditions also have stiff neck, headaches/migraines, IBS, digestive issues, insomnia, arthritis, fibromyalgia, joint stiffness and this list can go on and on…. They complain about their physical problems and don’t realise that it is their stress level which is one of the main causes of many issues they are suffering.
I help people on a physical level, to bring back their body’s balance and alignment which gives the opportunity to initiate body’s own healing ability and process, however I believe that if the emotional side has not been dealt with then it could knock this physical balance out. Human body is a system not just a structure of parts. When it comes to health, we can’t just look at the outer physical symptoms but use those symptoms as a navigator to find the root cause which could be the part of mental/emotional/chemical system of the body.
Any doctors or therapists could not help unless you help yourself! Needless to say that a one sided effort might not have long term permanent results. No one knows your body better than you. We all get caught in busy life but if you want a healthy life then give sometime to yourself regularly.
